Usually, this is the time of year when we’re getting excited about the ALA Annual Conference. At Midwinter Meeting the Newbery winner is announced, but at Annual, we get to listen to the winning author’s speech. It’s a wonderful, inspiring time, and we always come home with our love renewed for this great kid lit community. This year is different. …
This year, for the first time in 75 years, the conference is canceled. The last time that happened was during World War II. We’re disappointed to miss this event, and the Newbery banquet, but we’re also very grateful to ALA for making the undoubtedly difficult decision to cancel – thereby keeping us, and the authors we love, safe.
