On January 28th, the Youth Media Awards will be announced at the American Library Association’s Midwinter Meeting in Seattle, which means that 2018’s Medal and Honor books will be announced. What are your predictions?
I’m always wrong 🙂 But it’s fun to guess, and participating in mock Newbery groups has shown me why and how the winners can be so different than what you might have expected. HOWEVER, we will be glued to the live feed (you can watch it here), and if you’d like to know who’s winning what, you can follow along as we live tweet the results. The ceremony starts at 8am in Seattle, so 11am for those of us on the east coast. It’s not as exciting as being there in person, but it does allow me to go scurrying to my shelves (and then bookstores) to see which winners I have and which I need to find. If you want something to listen to while you wait, check out our interview with Erin Entrada Kelly, author of last year’s medal-winning book, Hello Universe.

We’ll be headed to ALA’s other conference, ALA Annual, in Washington DC in June, to see the Medal winner’s speech, so if you’re there too, be sure to say hi!
