Our snacks for this episode are Krimpets and Mars Bars; click here for more info.
Given the content of this book, we went for snacks over drinks. We snacked on Tastykake brand Butterscotch Krimpets, which we both grew up on and which are DELICIOUS, if now slightly less so thanks to a recipe change in recent years. I’m not crying, you’re crying. But if you don’t love them post-reformulation, or are afflicted as Jennie is in the gluten department, don’t despair! Here’s a recipe for a homemade, gluten-free version.
Our other snack, in honor of the adversary-turned-friend character Mars Bar, is (obviously) Mars Bars. These were a pain in the honkus to get, actually, since (according to Wikipedia) the American version was discontinued in 2002, but we were able to source ours from the English Tea Store. We sincerely hope the ones we got were not 20 years old, but who knows. They were on clearance.
Both are featured in the photo above. Feast your eyes (and your middle-grader’s palate)!
